Using UK 3G Mobile Broadband abroad

This is usually a very bad idea! The roaming charges for using UK 3G mobile broadband connections abroad are currently astronomical and should be avoided at all costs.  If you are planning to do this, ask your provider how much it would cost to download 100MB of data (not 1MB) in the country you are travelling to.  It is quite likely you would use more than 100MB of data transfer with light Internet and Email usage over a week or two.

Foreign 3G Mobile Broadband

If you have a holiday home abroad or frequently visit the same country then subscribing to a 3G Mobile broadband account in that country could be cost effective.  Even if only used two or three times a year, the convenience could offset the months when not in use, and compared to a home broadband service for a holiday home, you also save on the fixed line telephone rental usually required in addition to the broadband contract.

As usual, check coverage and the small print as far as possible, but for regular visits to the same country this is worth looking into.
